To me the common poppy symbolises personal remembrance – not only for the significance of Remembrance Sunday. My Nan taught me to knit. Her favourite flower was the common poppy and her house was full of poppy pictures. Ever since then the poppy has held a special place in my heart.
With this in mind I created this knitted poppy brooch pattern.
The poppy pattern uses Debbie Bliss Andes in colour 370008 (I’ve just knitted some more of these up and I got four poppies from one 50g skein) and small amount of Black yarn. For the middle of the bigger, floppier poppy in the picture I used an 8mm Black Onyx round bead in the centre.
Note: The poppy can be made small or large just like in the photo of both poppies. The floppier, larger poppy (on the right in the photo), uses the same pattern as the small one but all knit rows instead of knit row/purl row.
